Float Therapy for Relief of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is a condition affecting approximately one in 10 Americans. Defined as pain lasting for more than 12 weeks, it can be caused by a number of conditions including an initial injury or a long-term illness. For this reason, it can prove to be very difficult to treat. No one wants to live with pain. With better pain management, they can be more active and participate more fully in life. Float therapy is a non-invasive and drug-free way to help relieve the discomfort of chronic pain that fits into an overall wellness plan.
About Float Therapy
This type of relaxation technique was developed in the 1950s by Dr. John C. Lilly. As a medical doctor, Lilly determined that floating in a bed-sized tub filled with water heated to skin temperature, and Epsom salt containing magnesium sulfate would be beneficial. There is enough Epsom salt added to the water that the patient floats.
While floating in the pod, the lights are turned off. There are no distracting sounds. When outside stimuli are eliminated, the person experiencing float therapy can relax completely, which may help relieve their pain.
Float Therapy for Pain Management
Going to a floating pod doesn’t require any special knowledge or equipment. All a person needs to bring is themselves. As soon as they get into the Epsom salt and water, they will immediately start to relax.
Floating creates an environment of weightlessness and gives aching muscles and joints a break from supporting the body. It also acts as natural traction for spine injuries and can help with back pain.
Float therapy can have a place for a chronic pain patient’s wellness plan. It’s simple and effective, and there are no side effects! At Mill Creek Float, we understand that no one wants to be in pain — call us today to arrange a float session for yourself or one of your employees!
